Pharmacists moving to Dubai
For GPhC-registered pharmacists. Which regulator applies, the route in order, the documents, and where pharmacists work. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
A GPhC-registered pharmacist is licensed in Dubai through the DHA for most mainland employers, or MOHAP for some operators, typically in 8 to 16 weeks: attested documents, DataFlow verification, a Prometric assessment, then activation by the employer. Confirm the regulator first. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
How does a UK pharmacist get licensed in Dubai?
Confirm the regulator with your employer
Mainland Dubai employers use the DHA; some operators use MOHAP. The paperwork is similar but the portals and exams are separate.
Attest documents in the UK
MPharm or equivalent, GPhC certificate of good standing under six months old, pre-registration evidence and family certificates: FCDO, UAE Embassy, Arabic translation and notarisation.
Register on the regulator's portal
DHA Sheryan or the MOHAP licensing portal; upload documents and pay the fee.
DataFlow verification
DataFlow verifies degree and registration; two to four weeks is typical.
Prometric assessment
The pharmacist paper for the relevant regulator, unless exempt.
Eligibility letter and facility activation
Your employer activates the licence under its name.
Visa and Emirates ID
Medical fitness test, biometrics, visa stamp, Emirates ID.

Where do pharmacists work in Dubai?
Hospital pharmacies in the main medical clusters, retail chains across every community, clinic dispensaries, distributors in Dubai Science Park and the free zones, and manufacturers' regional offices. Clinical and retail roles need a practising licence; some industry roles do not.

What should I ask before I sign?
- Which regulator the employer licenses through, and who pays for it.
- Basic salary, hours, and whether retail roles carry sales targets.
- Health insurance, flights, leave and gratuity.
- Probation and notice periods.
- Whether the licence sits with one branch or the chain.
Where would I live?
Rent first, buy later is the usual order. The area guides describe twelve communities for medical professionals with commute notes; for current rent and price figures I pull DLD and DXB Interact data on the call and date it in your written summary. If you are considering buying at AED 2 million or more, read the Golden Visa page first.

Questions people ask
Is it the DHA or MOHAP for pharmacists?
It depends on the employer. Pharmacies and hospital pharmacies in mainland Dubai license pharmacists through the DHA; employers in the northern emirates, and some federal or multi-emirate operators, license through MOHAP. Ask the employer which regulator they use before you start the paperwork, because the two processes are separate.
Do UK pharmacists sit an exam?
Usually yes: the DHA or MOHAP Prometric assessment for pharmacists, unless an exemption in the regulator's current criteria applies.
How long does pharmacist licensing take?
Typically 8 to 16 weeks for the DHA route; MOHAP timelines are similar in my colleagues' experience but are set by MOHAP. Reviewed 22 October 2026.
Where do UK pharmacists work in Dubai?
Hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacy chains, clinic dispensaries, pharmaceutical distributors and regulatory or medical-affairs roles with manufacturers. Industry roles may not need a practising licence; clinical and retail roles do.
Can I open a pharmacy?
Pharmacy ownership is a licensed, premises-based business under the DHA and DET with its own rules on ownership and a pharmacist-in-charge. It is possible for a licensed pharmacist with the right structure; it is a healthcare property question as much as a licensing one.
Can I bring my family?
Yes, on a dependant visa with attested certificates, subject to the ICP's salary threshold for sponsoring dependants.
